In Slovakia with a XP DEUS II 28 FMF RC WS6 metal detector

"During the joint archaeological survey of the association SEPTENTRIO - www.spolokseptentrio.sk I managed to discover two of these beautiful, albeit rather battered, Roman coins with the DEUS II detector and the Deep HC program.

Specifically, Commodus (177-192) and Antoninus Pius (138-161). The remaining two (Marcus Aurelius (161-180) and Faustina II. (+175)) were discovered by colleagues. This proves that the settlement of the North Carpathian group was confirmed in the given location. These are truly exceptional and rare finds for local archaeologists. (preliminary appointment Igor Bazovský 7/7/2023) 1. Commodus (177-192), denarius (?), damaged. Av: Wreathed head of emperor right, description illegible, Rev: Minerva/Roma standing left in helmet, holding Victoria and spear 2. Marcus Aurelius (161-180), denarius from 169-170, tattered. Av: Wreathed head of emperor right, M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXIIII , Rv: Salus standing facing, head left, holding scepter and feeding serpent coiled around altar, (SALVTI) AVG COS III. Lit.: RIC 222, RSC 546 3. Antoninus Pius (138-161), denarius, worn. Av: Wreathed head of emperor right, ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP…, Rv: Goddess holding scepter and extending hand, description illegible 4. Faustina II. (+175), denarius, worn. Obv: Bust of Faustina II. right, FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, Rv: Concordia (?) standing left, holding patera and cornucopiae, AVGVSTI (P II FIL). Lit.: RIC 496, RSC 21.

I am pleased that as an amateur I can be part of the association of professional archaeologists and discover the beauty of our region of northern Slovakia - Orava. Although this is a fairly well-explored area and robbed by detectorists, recent years confirm that there is still much to discover. Most recently, LiDAR imaging is also helping archaeologists, and Slovakia is one of the few countries recorded with this technology. However, since the Slovak laws regarding detection are quite strict, this technology also helps illegal detectorists, of which there are many in our country. This is also evidenced by the looted sites that our archaeologists managed to document. It's sad how illegal detectorists don't care about preserving our history, as the illegal excavation of an object from the ground destroys the circumstances in which it was found there."
