DEUS
What is the DEUS concept ?
DEUS is innovative in terms of metal detector design** as it offers an architecture based on three elements communicating via a digital radio link. In this new design the coil, remote control and audio headphones have each been made independent through the integration of very compact, high-capacity lithium batteries.
An ultra-miniature electronic circuit, incorporated in the search coil, digitises and analyses the signals. Data is then sent to the headphones and remote control in real time via a digital radio link. With this method, the signal is processed at source and not conveyed via a wire link, which greatly improves data quality.
Incorporating components from leading-edge technologies such as scientific instrumentation has enabled us to produce a powerful, rapid, lightweight, compact and fully controllable digital detector.
Whether you are an experienced user or a beginner, DEUS lets you decide whether or not to modify any of its settings. Powerful pre-configured factory programmes enable all users to get started immediately, while expert detectorists can choose more advanced parameters via the intuitive interface.
What is described in this manual as the ‘Remote Control’ is in fact the user interface, known as the ‘control box’ on conventional detectors.
It enables the detector’s many functions to be precisely adjusted via a graphical interface. It can also receive programme updates (via internet) through its USB socket.
DEUS is also exceptional in being able to function without the remote control, with the ability to use just the coil and the wireless headphones, for an even more compact, lightweight configuration (just 875g)!
Like the remote control, the headphones contain all the components needed for detection – they are a genuine control unit in themselves, but on an ultra-miniature scale. They take over in the absence of the remote control for adjusting the detector settings.
With the headphones you can turn DEUS on and off, change the main detection settings such as sensitivity, discrimination, ground balance, tone, frequency (4 kHz, 8 kHz, 12 kHz, 18 kHz), volume, etc. as well as selecting the factory programmes or those previously configured with the remote control!
Performance is identical whether you are searching with or without the remote control!
Lastly, the new patented* XP stem has the combined advantages of an S-shaped stem and a straight telescopic stem.
It enables you to deploy or fold away the device in just a few seconds, and to change the coil in an instant.
Its user-friendly design ensures comfort and convenience for the user: length is fully adjustable by millimetre increments, improved operating angle and shaped rubber handle for a firm, controlled grip.
So now you’re ready for a new adventure!

What does DEUS actually offer in terms of detection?
Firstly, its appearance is closely tied to its qualities. DEUS was designed to be compact, lightweight and easy-to-use, so as to minimise the constraints of having a device that is often carried long distances and manipulated for several hours at a time. This was made possible by a team of designers who are themselves keen detectorists.
In addition to its practical features, DEUS also encapsulates the long-standing aspirations of XP users: several devices in one and even better performance. But above all, by opting for an entirely digital device that can be precisely configured, XP has created a metal detector that each user can adapt to his/her own detecting style, habits, sites and terrains. Moreover, DEUS is upgradable, meaning that improved versions of the software can be downloaded when available.
Is DEUS complicated to use?
DEUS has been designed to be easy for everyone to use. Experienced detectorists can of course finely tune their device using the advanced settings. But beginners can start detecting effectively as soon as the device is switched on, using one of the nine pre-configured programmes, just with a simple click. DEUS is really not complicated at all!
How is DEUS “more powerful”?
It would be misleading to talk about pure power, but DEUS can offer enhanced power as a result of adapting the detection parameters more closely to the particular ground characteristics, which makes it far more efficient.
So although the power of the wave field emitted by DEUS can be adjusted, it is important to realise that you will obtain better ground penetration by adjusting the detector’s frequency, reactivity speed and ground balance according to the actual environment you are detecting in.
When detecting with DEUS, am I free to use just the remote control or just the headphones? Or do I need both with me at all times in order to control the detector?
It really is possible to use one without the other. The remote control is fitted with a loudspeaker and there is a screen and a keypad on the headphones.
Of course, the information is more comprehensive and easier to read on the remote control’s graphic screen, and the sounds are more easily interpreted using the headphones. Nevertheless, DEUS is designed to expand your possibilities while being more compact. The loudspeaker gives good quality sound and DEUS’s most important settings can be modified from the headphones.
This includes:
- choice of detection programme
- discrimination level
- sensitivity level
- ground effects correction
- choice of frequencies (4, 8, 12 or 18 kHz)
- choice of tones
- choice of coils
Is DEUS completely safe with regard to the HF radio waves?
DEUS complies with standards for user safety with regard to electromagnetic waves. The strength of the radio signals used is considerably weaker and on a much smaller scale than those emitted by mobile telephones (2,000 to 4,000 times weaker!), as well as being much less than those used by Wi-Fi systems.
Moreover, when the complete system is used, the audio headphones only act as a passive radio receiver, and do not emit any signals.
How is DEUS “more lightweight” and
The full configuration of DEUS weighs 975g. When the remote control is worn on your belt, the total weight comes down to 875g (stem + 22.5 cm coil). This achievement has been made possible due to the utilisation of miniaturised electronics, in particular leading-edge components developed for scientific instrumentation, high capacity lithium batteries and… a few other manufacturing secrets...
What stands out most is its fully telescopic stem (extending from 58 to 130 cm), which marks a breakthrough in the appearance of XP detectors. And this new telescopic stem can be used with all other XP detectors.
But in fact DEUS’s most innovative concept is its wireless technology and the miniaturisation of all its elements. The traditional control box is gone, as is the cable, because a sizeable amount of the signal analysis is actually performed by the coil. DEUS’s “remote control”, about the size of a mobile telephone, merely acts as a communication interface, since most functions can also be performed by the headphones!
How is DEUS “faster”?
If we take as a reference a device such as the Gold Maxx Power that is already very fast, DEUS is even faster when the Reactivity function is used.
What is the advantage of a “wireless detector”?
The disappearance of the traditional cable linking the coil to the control box (and the disappearance of the control box itself) has two immediate advantages: first, an obvious reduction in weight and bulk, no more problems with storage or folding up the stem, nor with broken or snagged cables in the woods… and second, a gain in signal acquisition quality, as the signals no longer need to be conveyed via a wire link but are digitised and analysed closer to the source by the ultra-miniature electronic circuit housed in the coil.
